No More Flights To Mattala International Airport.

09 June 2018 13:45

Sri Lanka's second international airport that was constructed with the Chinese funding and was declared opened to the International aviation sector. But the only international airline "Fly Dubai" was operating in the Mattala airport. Now fly Dubai too has announced that it has suspended its flights to the Mattala Airport. There will be no more operations after 0?8 June 2018.

Some experts said that the UAE-based Fly Dubai has suspended its operations due to ecconomical reasons and some incidents related to birds hitting the flights.

As per Fly Dubai those passengers who have purchased air tickets between Dubai and Mattala are being rebooked on their other flights to Colombo.

The Mattala International Airport is located 250-kilometre drive from the capital Colombo. It normally takes nearly 5 hours to drive there.

In the beginning Air Arabia and Flydubai started to fly there. But after Air Arabia pulled out after only a few weeks and the Sri Lanka's national carrier Sri Lankan Airlines too stopped flying to Mattala in 2015 saying the move saved them $18 million annually.
