Nallur Kovil Thiruvila.

Nallur Murugan Temple Annual Festival (Nallur Thiruvila) of 2017 already took place from the month of July till August. It took place in the morning and evenings. It did start on 28th July 2017 and after 25 consecutive days ceremonies it was closed on 23rd of August 2017.. Lot of devotees, pilgrims and tourists did attended this "kovil thiruvila" during these days. During the final days lot of people attended the Nallur festival.

Tamil Hindus of Jaffna origins who are now living in foreign countries and foreign tourists too were seen at the Nallur Murugan temple along with the local residents.

Sri Lanka police officers (Male and Female police force) did their best service to maintain the law and order and provided necessary protection for the devotees from the thieves who used to intrude at large gatherings. These police officers had thwarted many gold jewels snatching attempts during the past festival times. The St John ambulance brigade too provided first aid medical service around the Nallur temple complex during these festival days. Jaffna Municipal council did its best by maintaining the temple area to be clean and tidy. Lot of CCTV cameras were used to monitor the area around the Nallur Kandasamy temple complex to catch thieves who used to stray during these Nallur Murugan Kovil Festival days.

There are dress code applies for the worshippers and the visitors, if they want to go near the swami during the procession times or when they are entering in to the temple.

This dress code is nearly like Sri Lanka’s Sacred Dalada Maligawa - Buddhist Shrine in Kandy.

Sinhalese devotees can stay at the Jaffna Naga Vihara pilgrims' accommodation facility which is maintained by the Jaffna Naga Vihara authorities. This pilgrims rest is located just near to the Jaffna Railway station and it can be reached by walking from the railway station.

Transport during Festival Season.

Trains, luxury busses and mini coaches are used to run between Colombo and Jaffna for to transport pilgrims. There used to be many special transports facilitates available between Jaffna town and the Colombo city during this Nallur Temple festival season. The popular one is the Air-conditioned express train (Intercity train) used to charge Rs 1,500 per reserved seat for one way travel. This fully air conditioned train starts at 5.10 am from Mount Lavania station (Colombo) and used to pass through Wellawatte, Bambalapitiya, Colombo Fort railway stations and will reach Jaffna by 12.30 noon on the same day. Likewise it starts from Kankesanthurai (KKS) at 1.15 PM and will reach Jaffna railway station at 1.45 pm and will reach Colombo railway station by 8.45 PM night.

There are 3 more train services too available where ticket prices ranging from Rs 350/- to Rs 1,800/- too are provided. Some class seats can be reserved 30 days prior to your travel plan.

46 seats Luxury buses and 41 seat semi luxury busses along with Toyota KDH and HiAce vans are running between Colombo and Jaffna. Seats for these busses can be booked in Wellawatte, Kotahena, Colombo and in Jaffna town.
